MBBS in China at a Glance
Yes, Pakistani students can pursue clinical medicine in China, including at universities offering an English-taught six-year MBBS route. But not every Chinese medical university is authorised to enrol international students in an English-taught clinical medicine programme for every intake. The right decision depends on the exact university, programme, academic year and your destination licensing rules.
Why Study MBBS in China?
China offers large universities, structured medical curricula, clinical teaching hospitals and an international student experience. For many Pakistani families, a Chinese medical programme is worth exploring because published fees can be more manageable than some alternatives. That does not make every university the right choice. Teaching language, real patient exposure, local-language communication, hospital placements and future licensing matter more than promotional rankings.
Reasons students consider China
- Several established institutions publish English-taught clinical medicine programmes.
- A six-year route allows time for pre-clinical sciences and practical medicine.
- Some universities publish clear annual tuition and accommodation charges.
- Students experience a new culture and a major healthcare system.
Trade-offs to plan for
- Clinical placements may require practical Chinese communication.
- Accommodation, food, insurance and travel add substantially to tuition.
- Scholarship availability for MBBS is not uniform.
- Recognition and registration are not automatically portable between countries.
MOE Listing, Accreditation & PM&DC: Know the Difference
Before making any payment, check three different questions. First: is the institution authorised for the English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine intake you are applying to? Second: what is the standing of its medical programme and clinical education? Third: will the exact qualification meet the regulator’s rules in the country where you want to practise?
Review China’s Ministry of Education intake rules and obtain a dated written confirmation from the university about the exact programme and 2026–27 admissions.
China’s Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education publishes programme-level accreditation records; this is a different question from permission to recruit an English-taught overseas cohort.
Pakistani applicants should check PM&DC’s current foreign-study, student-registration and future licensing requirements. A university’s website or WDOMS entry alone is not proof of permission to practise in Pakistan.

Eligibility for Pakistani Students in 2026–27
Applicants commonly present FSc Pre-Medical or an accepted equivalent with Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Age limits, minimum marks, English-proficiency evidence, health checks and entrance tests are set by individual universities. Do not assume that a score accepted by one medical school will work everywhere.
Does a Pakistani student need MDCAT for foreign admission?
Under PM&DC’s 5 October 2026 public notice, a passing MDCAT result is no longer a prerequisite for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical or dental institutions. This is specifically an overseas-admission exemption. Keep checking the separate PM&DC registration and post-graduation licensing process. View the full policy update.
What about CSCA?
The China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) is now part of some universities’ undergraduate application rules. For example, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine’s 2026 English-medium clinical medicine notice identifies Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as required CSCA subjects. Zhejiang University’s 2026 MBBS material also specifies CSCA testing requirements. Always use the target university’s own notice for the subjects, acceptable test language, score deadline and exemptions.
Is IELTS or HSK compulsory?
It depends on the programme. An English-language certificate, an English-medium school letter or another accepted qualification may be requested. English-medium teaching does not remove the need to learn Chinese for daily life and patient contact. Ask specifically which HSK level or clinical Chinese assessment is required before internships.

MBBS in China Fees: Real 2026 University Examples
Families often ask, “How much will MBBS in China cost?” There is no honest single price. Tuition changes with the university, and the real budget must include accommodation, meals, insurance, transport, annual travel and clinical/internship-related charges. The following are published 2026 university examples, not a fixed price promise from NICE.

What else should be on the budget?
- Accommodation: published 2026 Guangzhou Medical University dorm charges are RMB 4,000 or RMB 6,000 annually by campus; HUST quotes RMB 700–1,200 per month.
- Insurance and healthcare: HUST lists annual insurance at RMB 800; check your own university.
- Daily expenses: food, local travel, SIM, winter clothes, laundry, textbooks and personal costs depend on city and lifestyle.
- Travel and administration: passport, documents, application processing, visa, resident permit, physical examination and flights.
- Exchange-rate risk: prepare your family budget in RMB and review the PKR conversion before every payment.

Scholarships for MBBS in China
Scholarships may come from universities, provincial or municipal schemes and, where eligible, national scholarship programmes. Eligibility can depend on nationality, age, programme language, intake, academic performance and quota. A “full scholarship” advertisement is not evidence that an English-taught MBBS seat is funded.
Where to look
- Official international admissions/scholarship page of each university.
- Chinese Government Scholarship programme information on Campus China.
- Provincial, municipal and university merit awards.
- Documented tuition waivers or accommodation subsidies.
Before accepting an award
- Check whether MBBS and international undergraduates are eligible.
- Confirm the amount, duration, renewal standards and funding dates.
- Ask whether medical insurance, hostel and internship are covered.
- Never pay to a personal bank account on an unverifiable guarantee.
Official starting point: Campus China.
How to Apply for MBBS in China: Step by Step
- Choose your future licensing destination. If you expect to practise in Pakistan, begin with the applicable PM&DC rules—not just the university’s offer.
- Build a verified university shortlist. Check the precise course, language, MOE English-medium intake and clinical hospital arrangements.
- Review the admissions notice. Confirm academic subjects, age, grades, CSCA, English language, interview and application deadlines.
- Prepare your documents. Get clear scans and the necessary translations, attestations or equivalence papers.
- Submit an official application. Apply through the university’s published admissions portal or a properly authorised channel; keep a copy of every form.
- Attend required screening. This may include a test, document review, recorded interview or other university-specific process.
- Check your offer and fee invoice. Confirm the university name, programme duration, campus, teaching language, refund terms and official payee.
- Apply for visa and travel. Use the university’s official admission and study-visa paperwork; arrange accommodation, flights and arrival registration.
- Keep records throughout the degree. Save original receipts, annual transcripts, clinical logbooks, hospital placement evidence and attendance documents for later professional processes.
Start by shortlisting three universities you can genuinely afford and can verify for your intended registration pathway.
Documents Checklist
Individual institutions may request additional papers. Use this as a preparation list and compare it with the university’s current prospectus.

From your first semester to the teaching hospital
Ask about where you will study, where you will practise clinical skills, and how patient communication is taught. Those details shape your medical education.
China Student Visa, Arrival & Campus Life
For a typical multi-year MBBS programme, students normally apply for the X1 visa (study longer than 180 days). The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan’s published instructions list the university admission letter, JW201/JW202 study confirmation, financial evidence and other documents among the application requirements. Check the currently applicable embassy/visa-centre checklist before submitting because procedures change.
Before leaving Pakistan
- Confirm university intake dates and arrival instructions.
- Check your visa, passport and insurance requirements.
- Keep printed and digital copies of key academic papers.
- Plan safe first-night travel to the assigned accommodation.
After reaching China
- Complete university registration and required health checks.
- Follow local residence-permit procedures and deadlines.
- Obtain campus contacts, local SIM and payment arrangements.
- Start learning practical Chinese alongside your medical studies.

MBBS Duration, Curriculum & Internship
Many English-taught clinical medicine programmes are structured around six academic years; Southwest Medical University’s 2026 notice describes five years of medical coursework and one year of internship. The precise arrangement varies by school, so ask whether clinical placements are included, where they occur and which language is used with patients.
Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, medical terminology and foundational science.
Pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, diagnostics, public health and clinical reasoning.
Rotations, bedside communication, supervised practice, logbooks and assessments according to the university curriculum.
Degree and transcripts, clinical documentation, then the regulator-specific process in your intended country of practice.
Can You Practise in Pakistan After MBBS in China?
Studying abroad and becoming licensed to practise are separate processes. Pakistani graduates must meet the PM&DC’s then-current requirements for their foreign qualification, documentation, examination and registration route. The National Registration Examination (NRE) may be relevant to the licensing process for foreign medical graduates; confirm the pathway applicable to your graduation cohort rather than relying on old social-media advice.
Before admission, request evidence of the exact degree title, English-medium eligibility, programme duration, teaching hospitals and internship. Keep each year’s transcripts and clinical records. If your goal is the UK, US or another country, independently review that country’s regulator and examination requirements, since no MBBS offer guarantees international practice rights.

Frequently Asked Questions About MBBS in China
How long is MBBS in China for international students?
Many English-taught MBBS or Clinical Medicine degrees take six years, often including an internship or clinical training period. Check the official curriculum and internship arrangements of the specific university.
Is MBBS in China taught entirely in English?
Some authorised programmes teach the academic course in English. Others are bilingual or Chinese-taught. Even English-medium medical students need appropriate Chinese-language skills for hospital communication and daily life.
Is MDCAT compulsory for Pakistani applicants to China in 2026?
PM&DC’s 5 October 2026 notice removed the requirement to have passed MDCAT as a prerequisite for admission to foreign medical and dental institutions. It did not automatically waive university entrance tests, PM&DC registration or post-graduation licensing rules.
What is the minimum FSc percentage for MBBS in China?
There is no safe universal cut-off covering all universities. Each university sets its own minimum marks and subject requirements; review the current published programme criteria.
Is CSCA required for MBBS admission?
Some universities require a China Scholastic Competency Assessment score. Required subjects, exam language and deadlines vary. Consult the current admission notice for each university.
How much does MBBS in China cost in 2026?
As verified examples, published annual English-medium tuition ranges from RMB 31,000 at Southwest Medical University to RMB 42,800 at Zhejiang University. This is not a national range or full-cost estimate; fees and additional living costs vary.
Can I get a full scholarship for English-taught MBBS?
Funding opportunities may exist, but full scholarships are not guaranteed, and not every scheme covers English-taught clinical medicine. Confirm eligibility and coverage from the university or funding body’s official announcement.
Which universities are MOE-approved for English-taught MBBS?
The approved intake is specific to the academic year and programme. Ask your shortlisted university for its current MOE-authorised English-taught Clinical Medicine admission status and consult official Chinese education authorities; do not treat a generic school directory as proof.
Is a Chinese medical degree automatically recognised in Pakistan?
No. Professional recognition and permission to practise depend on PM&DC’s current requirements and the exact institution, qualification and graduate’s licensing pathway.
Do Pakistani students need IELTS or HSK?
These requirements vary by university and programme. Some accept evidence of previous English-medium schooling; Chinese proficiency may still be required before clinical placements.
What visa is used for six years of medical study?
Generally, X1 applies to study longer than 180 days. Verify current required documents with the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the visa processing centre.
Can I complete my clinical internship outside China?
This is university-specific and may also affect recognition by the regulator in your intended country of practice. Get written confirmation of any external-placement permission before relying on it.
Are application fees or university deposits refundable?
Refund policies differ. Read the written offer and official university invoice, including admissions fees, deposits and visa-refusal terms, before paying.
When should I start applying for the next intake?
Application windows differ, and scholarships may close earlier than self-funded admissions. Begin document preparation months in advance and monitor each university’s official 2026–27 or 2027 notice rather than assuming a common September deadline.
