Zhengzhou University: medicine within a comprehensive university
Zhengzhou University, often shortened to ZZU, is in Henan province in central China. Its present institutional structure followed the merger of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University in 2000. It is a comprehensive university rather than a standalone medical school.
For a prospective medical student, the important distinction is the specific international Clinical Medicine programme: where you study, how you are assessed and which clinical experience your offer includes. A university-wide reputation should support your research, not replace those checks.
Zhengzhou University (ZZU) and Zhejiang University (ZJU) are different institutions in different provinces. Their fees, entry tests and campus arrangements are not interchangeable. Match the university name and programme on every document.

What makes Zhengzhou University worth considering?
ZZU brings medicine into a large university with engineering, science and other disciplines around it. That breadth, a long medical history and an affiliated-hospital network are useful reasons to put it on a shortlist. The next step is to examine the course you would actually join.
A substantial medical setting
The university’s medical-college profile describes 13 affiliated hospitals and medical teaching and research facilities. This is institutional context from July 2025, not an individual placement guarantee.
A wider research environment
The Tianjian Advanced Biomedical Laboratory publishes current research activity on its university website. Research facilities and undergraduate teaching labs serve different purposes; ask which are part of your course.

The six-year pathway—and why campus allocation matters
The official 2025 English-taught undergraduate guide describes six years of Clinical Medicine: three at the new campus, two at the medical campus and one in an affiliated-hospital internship.
This dated study pattern helps you ask the right questions. Obtain the current curriculum, campus allocation and internship policy for your cohort before making a six-year plan. Moving campuses can affect accommodation, local travel and living arrangements.
English teaching does not remove clinical-language needs
Ask how classroom teaching, examinations, ward rounds and patient communication are handled. Request the current Chinese-language and HSK progression requirements in writing. Regular language study from the beginning can make the transition to clinical work easier.
If an offer includes a preparatory year, find out whether that year is additional to the degree, what must be passed and what happens if progression is unsuccessful. A foundation offer and direct MBBS admission are different commitments.
Is there a six-month pre-medical course?
A shorter foundation route has existed, but its length has varied between published notices. The university’s “2024 Foundation Programs” announcement describes a one-semester route leading towards English-medium degrees including MBBS and BDS. Its body still contains a 2023 schedule, so it cannot establish a new intake’s calendar.
A separate university guide published in October 2024 describes a full academic year, from September to July. It covers everyday Chinese, academic and medical English, science preparation and introductory medical activities. The published tuition reference is

Successful completion is assessed; it is not simply a payment that guarantees a degree place. The older semester announcement and the longer course guide should not be combined into a single current six-month offer.
Get the start and end dates, progression mark, attendance requirement, degree-entry conditions and complete fees on the same written offer. Ask whether the foundation adds time to the six-year degree and whether a scholarship is awarded before entry or only after assessment.

BDS and dentistry at Zhengzhou University
Yes—the university’s English undergraduate prospectus includes six-year Stomatology, the dental route commonly advertised to international applicants as BDS. It lists the same dated annual tuition reference as Clinical Medicine:

Choosing dentistry is a different professional decision from choosing medicine. Ask for the dental curriculum, simulation teaching, patient-care requirements, clinical assessment and internship arrangements. Have the intended qualification checked against your destination country’s dental-registration rules before paying.
Does BDS come with a scholarship?
There are scholarship routes worth asking about, but we did not verify a current offer guaranteeing funding to every English BDS applicant. The scheme, nationality, cohort, award amount and renewal conditions need to match your application. The scholarship section below explains the published Henan scheme and what is still unconfirmed.
Admission: establish the route before choosing an intake
A new direct-entry intake window has not been independently verified for this guide. The accessible university prospectus is labelled 2025; its dates are historical. Recruitment pages advertising a later intake should be checked against a matching university notice.

The university has a separate 2026 medical foundation notice; access was intermittent during this review, so its details have not been substituted for direct MBBS entry requirements. Start from the official admissions gateway and ask the school to send the current applicable notice.

Upcoming admissions: opening and closing dates
As of 22 October 2026, a current university notice confirming the next English MBBS, BDS or foundation application window has not been verified. The older official pages give different calendars for different routes. Here is what those pages actually say:

A recruitment platform’s advertised January or September date is a useful enquiry lead, not a university-confirmed deadline. Ask the international admissions office for the dated notice for your programme. Its published contact is [email protected].
Fees: use a dated reference, then obtain an itemised offer
The university’s 2025 prospectus lists annual Clinical Medicine tuition of RMB 35,000 and accommodation in a RMB 5,000–10,000 annual range. These are dated official references, not a verified new-intake package. A later invoice takes precedence.

Ask whether a quotation includes insurance, application and registration charges, books, medical checks, residence formalities, deposits and service fees. Keep meals, transport, flights and personal spending in a separate budget. Do not compare an all-inclusive first-year quote with tuition alone.
Request the internship-year charge and refund terms in writing. This page does not assume that an overseas internship attracts a discount or that a package remains unchanged for six years.
Build your own degree budget
Start with the dated tuition reference and replace the fields with your written quotation. The accommodation field is editable. Add living expenses, insurance and travel; a blank field counts as zero, so the initial result is incomplete.
The model uses the annual tuition for up to five years and your separate Year 6 assumption for the sixth. Annual costs repeat for the selected number of years; living costs use 12 months. One-time costs are added once. It does not predict fee increases, scholarships or the actual internship invoice.
Clinical education and hospital experience
The university’s July 2025 Henan Medical College profile describes a network of affiliated hospitals and facilities for medical research and teaching. It also describes a new medical campus as under construction at that time; this does not establish that your classes will take place there.
Use the official medical-college introduction to understand the wider setting. For your own training, ask for the assigned hospital list, rotation schedule, supervisor arrangements and assessment requirements.
Before clinical study
Confirm the language standard required to join clinical work and the consequences of not meeting it on time.
Before internship
Check placement approval, duration, fees, attendance and the evidence your future regulator will require.
During rotations
Maintain signed logs and assessment records. Understand what activities you may undertake under supervision.
Before graduation
Review outstanding credits, language requirements, examinations and document arrangements with the school.
A large hospital network is useful context; it is not a promise that each student can select any hospital or specialty.
Living in Zhengzhou: plan around the allocated campus
Choose accommodation around the campus on your offer, rather than a generic map pin for the university. Ask whether a later course stage involves a move and whether university accommodation remains available after that move.
Inspect the room offer
Request recent, clearly identified room photographs, occupancy, bathroom arrangements and an inventory. Confirm deposits, electricity, water, internet and holiday access.
Build a realistic routine
Plan travel time, groceries, suitable meals, study space and weekly spending. Discuss dietary and accessibility requirements before accepting accommodation.
Arrive with a confirmed plan
Get the registration address, permitted arrival date and check-in contact from the school. Keep changeable travel plans until the required documents are ready.
Find student support
Ask who handles residence issues, academic concerns and emergencies. Keep university contacts accessible offline as well as on your phone.
The School of International Education is the appropriate starting point for current student arrangements. Official site images can help establish context, but a dated photograph is not proof of the room you will receive.

The university has published photographs from a January 2024 dormitory visit. They show Earth Sciences students’ rooms, not a confirmed international MBBS or BDS allocation.
Laboratories
The official Tianjian laboratory website shows the university’s biomedical research environment. Research access is separate from the teaching-lab arrangements in your degree.
Hostel and laboratory images are linked at their official source while republication permission is unresolved. Ask the school for current, authorised photographs of the exact accommodation and teaching labs offered to your cohort.
Scholarships: the published amount and the BDS question
The university’s October 2024 introduction to the Henan Government Scholarship gives an undergraduate support standard of:
The stated duration is generally up to four years, or up to six for medicine. It says teaching is usually in Chinese, with English available in some programmes. That is a general scheme description; it does not itself confirm that your English BDS cohort is included.
The published criteria include strong academic performance, appropriate language and programme qualifications, good health and no criminal record. Selection and the eventual award are separate from admission. Read the official scheme introduction.

The university’s Chinese Government Scholarship guidance says its undergraduate CSC route accepts Type A; the Type B section concerns postgraduate study. This does not establish an English BDS award either.

Your application preparation checklist
The university prospectus links to its international-student platform. Prepare files against the active notice rather than relying on an agent’s generic list. If the platform is temporarily unavailable, use the school website to obtain current instructions.

Before accepting an overseas medical place, verify the current PM&DC rules for your intended institution, programme and personal pathway. Ask about student registration, training, internship, examination and licensing obligations that apply to your admission cohort.
Chinese programme permission, a medical-school directory entry and professional registration are different questions. WHO does not approve individual MBBS universities; WDOMS is a directory, while WFME recognises accrediting agencies. None is an automatic licence to practise.
For a destination outside Pakistan, check that country’s regulator separately. Obtain answers before paying, and retain dated copies alongside your offer. Do not assume that admission or a degree guarantees registration in every country.
Questions to resolve before accepting a place
Is Zhengzhou University the same as Zhejiang University?
No. Check the names and domains carefully: this guide concerns Zhengzhou University in Henan. Conditions published for Zhejiang University should not be used for this application.
How long is the English medical route?
See the dated programme outline above. Ask the school to confirm the duration, campus sequence and any additional preparatory period in your own offer.
Are the displayed fees a current admission package?
No. They are clearly dated official reference amounts. Obtain a current itemised invoice and use it to update the budget fields.
What is the total cost over six years?
It depends on tuition, accommodation, internship arrangements and your living costs. The calculator adds your own inputs and labels the result as an estimate rather than a guaranteed package.
Is a foundation year the same as MBBS admission?
No. Establish the degree-progression conditions, extra time and costs before accepting a preparatory route.

Can I choose my hospital or complete internship abroad?
