The MOE stated that the training standards for students studying outside the list of 45 universities must not fall below those for undergraduate students majoring in clinical medicine in China. The statement also strictly prohibited using the ‘Bilingual Teaching’ mode for recruiting foreign students in MBBS programs.
China has clarified that apart from the 44 listed universities, foreign students will be taught medicine in Chinese; Indian students should be ready to learn Chinese while studying medicine and receive their degree in Chinese – and not in English. This statement means that, outside of the 45 designated universities, foreign students studying medicine in China will be taught entirely in Chinese. Students must be prepared to learn the Chinese language alongside their medical studies and will receive their medical degree in Chinese, rather than in English.
