Introduction to Hainan Medical University

Hainan Medical University, The current college was created in 1993 with the approval of the central government. In 1951, two private medical colleges were merged to form the Hainan Specialized Medical School. These two colleges were Haiqiang Medical Vocational School (created in 1947) and the Medical College of Hainan University (established in 1948).

Over the past 65 years since its founding, Hainan Medical University (HMU) has trained more than 40,000 students, with one academician, and 2 in the provincial level leadership. Graduates from HMU are now working in over 10 different countries and regions including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

Statistics from 22 county-level comprehensive hospitals show that over 70 % of the hospital directors are graduates of HMU, and 60% of the professionals and technical personnel in the medical departments and academic leading positions in the primary health units of Hainan province are graduates of HMU. First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University is a first-class general hospital providing services of medical care, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, first aid, and community service. The hospital is located in the center of Haikou City, the capital of Hainan Province with a beautiful environment and convenient transportation.

The hospital was established in 1973 and has nearly 40 years of development history. At present, there are 1500 beds in the hospital, 44 clinical departments, and 2316 employees. Among them, there are 549 full-time teachers, 112 professors (Chief Physician), 233 associate professors (Deputy chief physician), the number of experts awarded State Council special allowance and experts in Hainan Province reaches 19, there are 2 part-time doctoral tutors, 25 master tutors, 309 masters and doctors.
